MIPS is excited to introduce K-12 Theatre classes for the 2021-22 school year! We are offering enjoyable theatre classes for students in every grade. For the 2nd semester 6th-12th grade MIPS students will be able to audition for and perform in our first ever MIPS virtual play "Virtually Ever After!"
ELEMENTARY CREATIVE ARTS (K-5) Have you ever wanted to venture to a far-off kingdom? Have you ever wanted to see how actors become the characters we see on stage and television? Look no further! In this Creative Arts course we will be exploring the fundamentals of theatre through the utilization of games, vocal/movement exercises, and role-play, students will learn how to use their voice, mind, and body to bring characters to life! During our weekly zoom sessions students will develop performance skills as well as skills in technical areas of theatre such as costume design and scenic design. Students will have the opportunity to slip into the shoes of some of their favorite story-book characters while also developing the skills to sculpt stories of their own. MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATRE In this synchronous course we will explore theatre as a form of artistic expression and as a possible future career. Students will learn about the many aspects of theatrical production through the use of games, exercises, and guided dramatization. During this class students will develop skills in acting, playwriting, scenic design, costume design, Theatre history, audition preparation, and much more! Students will learn how to use their mind, voice, and body to create stories and characters while collaborating with their classmates. This course will culminate in a class production to demonstrate both the performance and technical theatrical skills developed throughout the year. Each week students will be required to watch an instructional video, complete a related assignment and participate in a one hour Zoom class. HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE In this year-long synchronous course we will be exploring theatrical performance and production. Students will learn about the multifaceted theatre industry through the use of games, play analysis, movement/ vocal exercises, and peer collaboration. Throughout the year students will explore all areas of theatre such as: acting, costume design, sound design, voice over acting, Shakespeare, playwriting, audition preparation, and much more! Students who take this course will be personally invited to audition or participate behind the scenes in our MIPS yearly theatrical production! Additionally, this course will culminate in a short play production project to demonstrate the theatrical skills developed throughout the year. By the end of this course students will be well-rounded theatre artists who possess the skills to continue their theatrical endeavors at a higher level. Each week students in this course will be required to watch an instructional video, complete a related assignment and participate in a one hour Zoom class. |
